Opportunity: Chair to lead the Board of Trustees

We're looking for a new Chair to lead the Board of Trustees. Our new Chair will have a passion for the arts and the people of east London, champion Stratford Circus Arts Centre and lead us in our drive to raise our profile and grow our organisation.

Stratford Circus Arts Centre is east London’s leading arts centre, with a national reputation for its work with young people and the wide range of communities in Newham and beyond - www.stratford-circus.com .

Having first opened in 2001, Stratford Circus was taken over by a specially established trust Stratford Arts Trust in 2012. Under the Chairmanship of Nigel Hinds and Directorship of Tania Wilmer the Trust has established itself as a robust SME with a turnover of £1.4 million, underpinned by an annual Arts Council grant of £301k.

The centre collaborates with a wide range of major arts organisations such as Akram Khan Company, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Dance Umbrella, and the National Theatre. It has a mission to enable positive social change through the arts. Its broad-reaching access programme extends from early years through to older people, providing 29,000 opportunities to engage with artistic activities in 2017/18 .

The cultural ecology of east London is evolving rapidly with the enormous changes around Stratford and the Olympic Park, including the forthcoming development of the East Bank on the Queen Elizabeth Park (a new V&A, Sadler’s Wells and Smithsonian Museum on the Olympic site).
