News: 5,000 Newham children will see the National Theatre's The Winter’s Tale for free

This exciting version of The Winter's Tale created by the National Theatre has been adapted for children aged 8 – 12. With a culturally diverse cast, it's the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for younger audiences. We're presenting it here between 21 Jan - 1 Feb in partnership with Newham Council, as part the Every Child a Theatregoer initiative. For many of these young audience members, this will be their first visit to the theatre.

The aim of Every Child a Theatregoer is to ensure every child in Newham is given a chance to see a theatre show before leaving primary school. This is the sixth year we have partnered with Newham Council to bring a specially selected performance to our venue which will support pupils’ learning experiences as well as ignite their imaginations and introduce them to the magic of live theatre.

This is the second time the National Theatre has staged a show here as part of Every Child a Theatregoer having presented Romeo and Juliet in 2017. Other artists to have performed include Akram Khan, Gyre and Gimble with Fuel, and Michael Rosen.
